SURE-P a conduit pipe, says labour leader

DEPUTY National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Promise Adewusi, has described the Subsidy Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P) of the Federal Government as a conduit pipe being used to fritter away Nigeria’s common wealth.

He also berated politicians for using the programme as a political weapon to cajole Nigerians for votes. Adewusi, who criticised the Federal Government for the shoddy implementation of the fund accruing into the Dr. Christopher Kolade-led programme, maintained that it has failed to impact positively on the lives of poor Nigerians since its inception in January last year.
Speaking with journalists at his Iyin Ekiti country home in Ekiti State Tuesday, Adewusi aid the fund, which was set up following the partial removal of fuel subsidy due to the increase in pump price from N65 to N97, has not trickled down to the poor masses it was meant to positively affect.
