Among those approved between 1999 and 2012 by the agency are 50 private universities, 27states universities and 12 federal universities. This puts the total number of universities in Nigeria at 125.
According to the information posted on the NUC website, eight universities were granted approval in 2012. They are Evangel University, Akaeze, Ebonyi State, Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State; Mcpherson University, Ajebo, Ogun State and Southwestern University, Oku-Owa, Ogun State (Private); Northwest University Unversity, Kano, Technical University Ibadan, Oyo State (State); and Police Academy Wudil, Kano states (Federal).
